    Though the base has a Norfolk address, it is located more in Virginia Beach. These cities are the top two most populated in the state and are a part of the area known as Hampton Roads. Other cities in Hampton Roads include Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Hampton, and Newport News. This is a heavily populated area and is home to many military installations; housing is not scarce here and the locals are used to the military lifestyle. A typical commute is about 20 minutes. However, traffic can be brutal in these parts, especially at rush hours. This coastal area of southern Virginia is just 1.5 hours southeast of Richmond, the capital city.     About the Installation
    Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek became a joint base when Naval Air Base Little Creek and Army base Fort Story were merged in October of 2009 as part of the Base Realignment and Base Closure Initiative. Little Creek is the largest base in the world of its kind and a major operating hub for amphibious forces in the Atlantic. Both bases were involved in amphibious maneuvers and extensive training, and merging them allows two of the finest bases to serve together to support the military warfighters.
